Announcements are controlled from a simple panel in the CMS and allow you to

• turn them on or off
• alter them

Depending on site deign announcements are usually placed in a box to give them prominence and sit high on the page. Here is an example.

The text on the page then continues in the normal way. The announcement can also be simply configured to use widgets (little app's that show things like the weather etc) or even scrolling text...

Essentially however , its all a matter of taste and design and what works to give your clients information in a simple and compelling way.
